Influenced by Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, Femi Kuti, Hugh Masekela. Fela Kuyo was raised in the shadow of the University of Ibadan, the eldest of six siblings who became a parent at fourteen when his activist father was silenced. His only inheritance was his father's political library and an old saxophone, which he taught himself to play by listening to Fela Kuti records. Today, he still lives in his hometown, his sprawling Afrobeat epics telling the story of a man who carries the weight of his family, his history, and his nation in every note he plays.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The blue light from this Tecno phone is drawing maps on the ceiling.
Two-oh-seven AM, the whole of Oje is lost in its feeling.
I count the words, one-twenty characters, a delicate design,
Trying to frame a simple question, make the structure feel aligned.
This late-night work requires a permit you have yet to sign.

[Chorus]
(He) I'm sending you the blueprint
(BV) *Na lie, you dey lie!*
(He) Just a midnight stress test
(BV) *Wetin you find tonight?*
(He) See if this foundation's true print
(BV) *Or if you go run from sight*

[Verse 2]
The three dots dance, a slow vibration from the cheap wood of this table.
You write back, "Fela, are you sure your own foundation is stable?"
A little crack of light, a joke to test the load that I've been bearing.
I type "This whole damn country's built on less," then stop myself from sharing.
Some heavy loads are not for her, some truths are not for airing.

[Bridge]
One deep breath, the fan above me clicks and chops the humid air.
I press SEND— *(PUNK GUITAR STAB)* —and hang my future on a prayer.

[Outro]
(He) Counting the seconds...
(BV) *(one... two...)*
(He) Just checking the grade...
(BV) *(...three... four...)*
