Influenced by Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, Femi Kuti, Hugh Masekela. Fela Kuyo was raised in the shadow of the University of Ibadan, the eldest of six siblings who became a parent at fourteen when his activist father was silenced. His only inheritance was his father's political library and an old saxophone, which he taught himself to play by listening to Fela Kuti records. Today, he still lives in his hometown, his sprawling Afrobeat epics telling the story of a man who carries the weight of his family, his history, and his nation in every note he plays.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
My marble steps still hold the heat from the governor's shoe
He said "the foundation is strong," I felt a tremor run straight through
The air-con drips a rhythm on the sweating window glass
Counting the Range Rovers as they slowly, slowly pass

[Chorus]
This pressure mark on my west wall sings a different song
A note for every promise since '93 went wrong
The pressure mark, o
They can't wash away this blood

[Verse 2]
Then she walks in, barefoot on the terrazzo tile
Harmattan dust and kerosene, a halo for her style
The big-man talk goes quiet, the whole room holds its breath
Just counting all the seconds between a new life and an old death

[Chorus]
This pressure mark on my west wall sings a different song
A note for every promise since '93 went wrong
The pressure mark, o
They can't wash away this blood

[Bridge]
You can plaster all the evidence, paint the surface clean
But my pillars remember every single broken scene

[Outro]
One... two... three... the counting never gone.
