Influenced by Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, Femi Kuti, Hugh Masekela. Fela Kuyo was raised in the shadow of the University of Ibadan, the eldest of six siblings who became a parent at fourteen when his activist father was silenced. His only inheritance was his father's political library and an old saxophone, which he taught himself to play by listening to Fela Kuti records. Today, he still lives in his hometown, his sprawling Afrobeat epics telling the story of a man who carries the weight of his family, his history, and his nation in every note he plays.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The Lekki Tollgate floodlights made a halo that October.
Your voice came through the static, a desperate kind of sober.
You said my name three times, a prayer against the heat,
The air thick with burning tires from down on Admiralty street.

[Chorus]
O, my Lagos, you draw the water line.
And every time I cross, I know this ruin is mine.
Yeah, you draw the water line.
And I keep coming back for what I cannot find.

[Verse 2]
Three-forty-seven A.M., you sketched it on a napkin.
"This new foundation's different," you swore it was gon' happen.
Now I count the promises like hairline cracks in this wall,
Knowing you built this monument just to watch it fall.

[Chorus]
O, my Lagos, you draw the water line.
And every time I cross, I know this ruin is mine.
Yeah, you draw the water line.
And I keep coming back for what I cannot find.

[Bridge]
This love is a weak beam in a house made of glass.
But whose hands will hold it all up when the hurricane pass?

[Outro]
The line keeps rising...
The water line.
