Influenced by Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, Femi Kuti, Hugh Masekela. Fela Kuyo was raised in the shadow of the University of Ibadan, the eldest of six siblings who became a parent at fourteen when his activist father was silenced. His only inheritance was his father's political library and an old saxophone, which he taught himself to play by listening to Fela Kuti records. Today, he still lives in his hometown, his sprawling Afrobeat epics telling the story of a man who carries the weight of his family, his history, and his nation in every note he plays.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The harmattan dust was settling on the Pioneer decks
And I was counting empty bottles by their necks
You two were a rumour the bassline confirmed
A temporary government, a lesson unlearned

[Pre-Chorus]
And the synth was a promise, a long delay
The kick drum was holding its breath half a world away
The whole room was waiting, the lights painted you strange
Like two pillars holding up the coming rain

[Chorus]
On a provisional floor, with a borrowed beat
You drew a new blueprint with your dancing feet
Just a provisional floor, nothing built to last
But oh, the foundation you laid so fast

[Verse 2]
That club is a bank now, guards stand where we stood
I passed it last Tuesday in the Agege traffic flood
And I still wonder, did your load-bearing wall break?
Or was that the last dance for goodness sake?

[Pre-Chorus]
And the synth is a memory, a long delay
The kick drum is beating half a world away
The whole nation is waiting, the old lies feel strange
Like two pillars holding up the acid rain

[Chorus]
On a provisional floor, with a borrowed beat
You drew a new blueprint with your dancing feet
Just a provisional floor, nothing built to last
But oh, the foundation you laid so fast

[Bridge]
(Tempo slows to ~94 BPM)
I saw him lean in, the music went low
He said, "Na so e be, anywhere we go."

[Outro]
Counting the beats...
Counting the years...
