Influenced by Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, Femi Kuti, Hugh Masekela. Fela Kuyo was raised in the shadow of the University of Ibadan, the eldest of six siblings who became a parent at fourteen when his activist father was silenced. His only inheritance was his father's political library and an old saxophone, which he taught himself to play by listening to Fela Kuti records. Today, he still lives in his hometown, his sprawling Afrobeat epics telling the story of a man who carries the weight of his family, his history, and his nation in every note he plays.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The generators on Bodija Road finally go quiet.
I feel the last vibration of their dancing feet.
They call this peace, I call it a different kind of riot,
Another layer of sediment, another year of heat.
They raise a glass to the new name on the official deed.

[Chorus]
They call it victory, I call it pressure.
Forming diamond from the dust, but the fault line never fresher.
They call it victory, I just call it pressure.

[Verse 2]
"Oya, celebrate!" the oldest brother screams his command.
The smell of spilt Schnapps soaks deep into my seams.
He is counting all the faces left here in this land,
I am counting all the fractures, the tectonic dreams.

[Chorus]
They call it victory, I call it pressure.
Forming diamond from the dust, but the fault line never fresher.
They call it victory, I just call it pressure.

[Bridge]
For a million years, I have held the family weight.
The slow erosion of their trust, the grinding of their wait.

[Outro]
(Saxophone melody from chorus, reharmonized to be minor and questioning)
Pressure... the fault line never fresher...
