Influenced by Joe Hisaishi, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ólafur Arnalds, Bon Iver. Ren Okada was raised between two worlds: the stoic geology of the Colorado Rockies with his American father, and the delicate art of kintsugi with his Japanese mother, who taught him that breakage isn't an end. After a panic disorder forced him to drop out of Berklee College of Music, he returned to Denver, where he writes cinematic future-bass in his small apartment to pay off his student loans from a degree he never finished. His music is for anyone who has ever felt more at home with mountains than with people, finding beauty in what's been broken.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The Coors can sweats on a picnic plaid
by the Lazy B Ranch sign from 'thirty-eight.
The air goes thick, a taste of metal and pine,
the last hour of July, a patient kind of wait.

[Chorus]
This is devotion, the pressure drop hymn.
This is devotion, the low atmosphere.
A static charge building on a copper whim.
My body is the canyon, my god is almost here.

[Verse 2]
A transistor radio plays John Denver thin.
He says, "Hand me the matches, I'll get it to light."
I feel the ozone crackle under my skin,
as the afternoon sun gives up the fight.

[Chorus]
This is devotion, the pressure drop hymn.
This is devotion, the low atmosphere.
A static charge building on a copper whim.
My body is the canyon, my god is almost here.

[Bridge]
The Poudre Canyon gneiss holds its quiet breath.
Six hundred million years to feel this fall.

[Outro]
The first drop hits the dust.
And I hold.
