Influenced by Joe Hisaishi, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ólafur Arnalds, Bon Iver. Ren Okada was raised between two worlds: the stoic geology of the Colorado Rockies with his American father, and the delicate art of kintsugi with his Japanese mother, who taught him that breakage isn't an end. After a panic disorder forced him to drop out of Berklee College of Music, he returned to Denver, where he writes cinematic future-bass in his small apartment to pay off his student loans from a degree he never finished. His music is for anyone who has ever felt more at home with mountains than with people, finding beauty in what's been broken.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
You tap the H Mart miso packet on the counter's granite seam.
It's quarter-past-one on a Wednesday, steam on the glass, a waking dream.
I'm already mapping the fault lines this kitchen will fall between,
practicing the silence when your car's no longer on the street.

[Chorus]
It's the pre-shock tremor, a pressure in the air.
I'm missing you already and you're still standing there.
This is the slow uplift, the ache before the tear.

[Verse 2]
You ask, "Remember that night on Pearl Street?"
Your voice is so close I can feel the quiet get loud.
And I'm memorizing the way your shadow falls across the sheet,
drafting the eulogy for this apartment in the clouds.

[Chorus]
It's the pre-shock tremor, a pressure in the air.
I'm missing you already and you're still standing there.
This is the slow uplift, the ache before the tear.

[Bridge]
Does the crystal know it's forming just to fracture from the stress?
Is this beauty just a sediment layer covering a mess?

[Chorus]
It's the pre-shock tremor, a pressure in the air.
I'm missing you already and you're still standing there.
This is the slow uplift, the ache before the tear.

[Outro]
The miso's getting cold now.
You're still standing there.
