Influenced by Noah Kahan, The Tallest Man on Earth, Gillian Welch, Jason Isbell. Silas Carrick grew up on Monhegan Island, Maine, a remote fishing outpost with a year-round population of 64. He learned to play on a beat-up banjo he found in the back of the island's one-room library during a winter storm that cut them off from the mainland. Now based in Boston, his songs are dispatches from the space between two worlds: the tidal rhythms of his past and the relentless hum of the city. He still measures time in ferry crossings and writes about the things that don't wash away.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The hull of the 10 AM Laura B
Groans like it knows my name
Dad's got a list of repairs laid for me
Says the salt's got into the grain
And I nod, but my hands don't remember the tools
Just the shape of a subway train

[Chorus]
Am I solid wood or just tourist veneer?
Glued on for a season, then gone for a year?
I'm caulked with the city, I'm warped from the tide
There's a foghorn screamin' from somewhere inside

[Verse 2]
Finn waves from his trap boat, his knuckles are rope
Says, "Heard you were makin' some noise up in Boston, I hope
You ain't forgot how to splice a damn line"
My hands are too clean, so I tell him I'm fine

[Chorus]
Am I solid wood or just tourist veneer?
Glued on for a season, then gone for a year?
I'm caulked with the city, I'm warped from the tide
There's a foghorn screamin' from somewhere inside

[Bridge]
Last night in my third-floor apartment I swore
I could smell the low tide through the crack in the door
And I almost believed I could fix it, you know?
With a hammer and nails and a place left to go

[Outro]
Just the foghorn answerin'
Am I home, or just here?
