Influenced by Noah Kahan, The Tallest Man on Earth, Gillian Welch, Jason Isbell. Silas Carrick grew up on Monhegan Island, Maine, a remote fishing outpost with a year-round population of 64. He learned to play on a beat-up banjo he found in the back of the island's one-room library during a winter storm that cut them off from the mainland. Now based in Boston, his songs are dispatches from the space between two worlds: the tidal rhythms of his past and the relentless hum of the city. He still measures time in ferry crossings and writes about the things that don't wash away.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The King Arthur Flour logo is peeling off the glass.
My 10 PM alarm isn't for my pills, it's for this.
Just a little bit of rye, some water from the tap.
It smells like beer and loneliness and something that might last.

[Chorus]
And it's a holy kind of hunger
Keeping this wild thing alive.
You're the proof and you're the wonder.

[Verse 2]
"It's just flour and science," is what you said that night.
The condensation on the window drew a line.
But the heat from the oven proofs more than just the bread.
It's a patient, rising quiet that gets inside my head.

[Chorus]
Yeah, it's a holy kind of hunger
Learning your patient design.
You're the proof and you're the wonder.

[Bridge]
And some nights the sound of the Green Line coming through the floor
Is a low and a living signal, like a foghorn off the shore.
I think I left you in the fridge the week I went back home.
Came back to the city begging, please don't leave me all alone.

[Chorus]
It's a holy kind of hunger.
I give myself up to the rise.
You're the proof and you're the wonder.

[Outro]
Feed the god there in the jar.
Yeah, feed the god there in the jar.
