Influenced by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Toots & The Maytals. Robert Markel learned his first chords on a beat-up guitar in a Trench Town yard, taught by the same hands that his mother, Deloris, worked to the bone at two jobs to support him. He became a mason to pay the bills, learning to build walls that were straight and true, a philosophy he pours into his roots reggae anthems. The songs are for his community, for the struggle, and for the one promise he still hasn't kept: to build his mother a house where she can finally rest.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Mi lay pon di dash next to a half-gone D&G vanilla soda,
Rattle every time di truck-wheel catch a pothole 'pon Spanish Town Road.
Him hummin' a tune from nineteen-eighty-three, a slow one.
He check me wid him thumb, mek sure mi bubble still a run.

[Pre-Chorus]
An' I know dis dust, dis sweat, dis sun-scorch pon him skin,
One day gwaan be a memory 'bout di place him begin.

[Chorus]
Find the middle air, mek di water settle down,
A crooked world can't last long pon righteous ground.
Yeah, find di middle air, before you set di cornerstone,
One day dis work will finish, and leave him standin' all alone.

[Verse 2]
Is a Friday, just past four, di concrete dust it taste like salt.
Him hold me up against a new wall, searchin' fi di fault.
Him whisper what she seh, "Son, build it straight and true."
But him nuh see di hairline crack dat runnin' through and through.

[Pre-Chorus]
An' I feel di tired tremble in di hand dat hold me tight,
An' I wish dat I could tell him, "It's alright for just tonight."

[Chorus]
Find the middle air, mek di water settle down,
A crooked world can't last long pon righteous ground.
Yeah, find di middle air, before you set di cornerstone,
One day dis work will finish, and leave him standin' all alone.

[Bridge]
Mi see di blueprint fade inna di sun, see di nail-head rust.
Mi measure every hope him have, and raise it from di dust.

[Outro]
The bubble run...
Straight home.
