Influenced by Joe Hisaishi, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ólafur Arnalds, Bon Iver. Ren Okada was raised between two worlds: the stoic geology of the Colorado Rockies with his American father, and the delicate art of kintsugi with his Japanese mother, who taught him that breakage isn't an end. After a panic disorder forced him to drop out of Berklee College of Music, he returned to Denver, where he writes cinematic future-bass in his small apartment to pay off his student loans from a degree he never finished. His music is for anyone who has ever felt more at home with mountains than with people, finding beauty in what's been broken.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
You trace the schist vein on the kitchen tile
from that October when the pressure dropped.
Felt the whole tectonic plate just shift a while,
a seismic shudder that has never stopped.
It’s in your jaw now, a crystalline ache.

[Chorus]
And this is how you worship, isn't it?
Your body a fault line begging to slip.
This is how you learn to call it holy.

[Verse 2]
You hear your mother say, "the cracks let the gold in,"
but your ears just ring with the barometric din.
The air gets thin above a thousand feet,
the kind of quiet that feels like a defeat.
You count the seconds like they're falling stones.

[Chorus]
And this is how you worship, isn't it?
Your body a fault line begging to slip.
This is how you learn to call it holy.

[Instrumental Breakdown]
(20 seconds)

[Bridge]
Thin air. A prayer you can't articulate.
The whole Front Range is holding its breath, you wait.

[Chorus]
And this is how you worship, isn't it?
Your body a fault line begging to slip.
This is how you learn to call it holy.

[Outro]
The gold fills the cracks.
You're rising back.
