Influenced by Joe Hisaishi, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ólafur Arnalds, Bon Iver. Ren Okada was raised between two worlds: the stoic geology of the Colorado Rockies with his American father, and the delicate art of kintsugi with his Japanese mother, who taught him that breakage isn't an end. After a panic disorder forced him to drop out of Berklee College of Music, he returned to Denver, where he writes cinematic future-bass in his small apartment to pay off his student loans from a degree he never finished. His music is for anyone who has ever felt more at home with mountains than with people, finding beauty in what's been broken.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The scree field slid on Bear Peak, late July in twenty-oh-nine.
You used your North Face sleeve to stop the bleed right at the treeline.
The air got thin, I felt the altitude hit,
Made some dumb joke about a tectonic shift.

[Chorus]
And you traced the line I couldn't see
My strike-slip scar, you and me

[Verse 2]
In the Forester, smelling of ozone and pine,
You said, "Hold still," like I was some kinda design.
The silence hummed a low, sub-bass drone,
A fault line forming in my collarbone.

[Chorus]
And you traced the line for only you to see
This strike-slip scar is a part of me

[Bridge]
It's a pale white ridge on my right shin now,
But I feel the pressure drop somehow.

[Chorus]
And I trace the line where you used to be
This strike-slip scar, a memory

[Outro]
A memory.
Hold still.
