Influenced by Joe Hisaishi, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ólafur Arnalds, Bon Iver. Ren Okada was raised between two worlds: the stoic geology of the Colorado Rockies with his American father, and the delicate art of kintsugi with his Japanese mother, who taught him that breakage isn't an end. After a panic disorder forced him to drop out of Berklee College of Music, he returned to Denver, where he writes cinematic future-bass in his small apartment to pay off his student loans from a degree he never finished. His music is for anyone who has ever felt more at home with mountains than with people, finding beauty in what's been broken.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The Meiji milk bottle on the step
Left a wet ring for the morning of the sixteenth.
I was tracing the cracks in the raku bowl,
Trying to find the gold your mother used.
The air had the pressure of a coming snow.

[Build]
On the TV, the news was just a low hum.
'Don't forget the daikon,' you were saying,
your voice a little thin, like high-altitude air.
A train passed, and the whole apartment gave a little shudder.

[Chorus / Drop]
And the ground was holding still.
The ground was holding still.

[Verse 2]
Saw Mr. Tanaka watering his bonsai,
the little maple, not the pine.
He nodded from across the alleyway.
I remember the specific gray of his sweater,
but I can't place the look in his eyes.

[Bridge]
Is this how a fault line feels before it gives?
A quiet Tuesday, collecting sediment.
A perfect crystal forming under weight.

[Outro]
(Vocal and single acoustic guitar)
The ground was holding still.
