Influenced by Noah Kahan, The Tallest Man on Earth, Gillian Welch, Jason Isbell. Silas Carrick grew up on Monhegan Island, Maine, a remote fishing outpost with a year-round population of 64. He learned to play on a beat-up banjo he found in the back of the island's one-room library during a winter storm that cut them off from the mainland. Now based in Boston, his songs are dispatches from the space between two worlds: the tidal rhythms of his past and the relentless hum of the city. He still measures time in ferry crossings and writes about the things that don't wash away.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The 2 AM Green Line rattles the glass.
Third week of November, the condensation's fast.
My breath on the frost of the Brighton windowpane
makes a little ghost island in the shape of Maine.

[Chorus]
And the plans were wrong for this house I'm in,
The dovetail memory just won't fit in.
I'm a hull taking water between two shores,
Don't know what I'm patching for anymore.

[Verse 2]
I remember the gut behind the old fish shack,
Skipping flat stones 'til the tide brought 'em back.
You were fixing a lobster trap, knuckles scraped and red,
"You can't caulk a rotted seam," was all you said.

[Chorus]
'Cause the plans were wrong for that house back then,
The dovetail memory just won't fit in.
I'm a hull taking water between two shores,
Don't know what I'm patching for anymore.

[Bridge]
And there's a low sound humming from the Mass Pike tonight,
It's not the foghorn warning, but it isn't right.
Just another signal in a language I can't keep,
Cutting through the static while the city is asleep.

[Outro]
Yeah, the plans were wrong.
Guess I'll draw my own.
