Influenced by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Toots & The Maytals. Robert Markel learned his first chords on a beat-up guitar in a Trench Town yard, taught by the same hands that his mother, Deloris, worked to the bone at two jobs to support him. He became a mason to pay the bills, learning to build walls that were straight and true, a philosophy he pours into his roots reggae anthems. The songs are for his community, for the struggle, and for the one promise he still hasn't kept: to build his mother a house where she can finally rest.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The Good Hope teacup pon the windowsill again,
Just watchin' where the morning sun creepin' in.
Is Tuesday, before the work-sweat and the heat begin,
And mi trace the little crack, running vertical and thin.
You know di one. Di one your thumb always find,
Like a map to some peace of mind.

[Chorus]
Mi measure out di days wid di sugar spoon,
Tell miself di foundation solid, you coming home soon.
Mi measure out di days wid di sugar spoon,
Underneath a worried moon.

[Verse 2]
Mi feel di heat right through the little chip near the lip,
A silent promise dat your hand let slip.
You laugh one time and seh, “That cup will outlive we.”
But a hairline fracture is a warning, you see.
It’s a structural stress, the first sign of the fall,
The kinda thing that brings down a whole wall.

[Chorus]
Mi measure out di days wid di sugar spoon,
Tell miself di foundation solid, you coming home soon.
Mi measure out di days wid di sugar spoon,
Underneath a worried moon.

[Bridge]
Mi put di spirit level pon di countertop, straight and flat,
But di bubble cyan’t tell me where your heart is at.

[Chorus]
(Key change up)
Mi measure out di days wid di sugar spoon…
Just tell me seh the foundation solid, you coming home soon.
Yeah, mi measure out di days wid di sugar spoon…
Just tell me seh you coming home soon.

[Outro]
Di steam mek a ghost pon di glass…
And fade out just as fast.
