Influenced by Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, John Prine, Blaze Foley. Townes Van Roy was born between two worlds in Del Rio, Texas, to a Border Patrol agent father and a mother from Ciudad Acuña, Mexico. He learned to speak Spanish in his grandmother’s kitchen near a specific panadería on Calle Hidalgo and learned about heartbreak when the border separated his own family. After dropping out of high school, he picked up his father’s old Yamaha nylon-string and started writing songs about the ghosts of the Rio Grande. He now lives in a small adobe house in the Terlingua ghost town, writing stark, third-person portraits of the drifters and lost souls he calls neighbors.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The long-ago gash on Efren's left thumb
Glows white 'neath the Lone Star bulb's low hum.
He traces the ridge where the barbed wire bit,
The August the creek bed up and quit.
Smelled just like creosote after the rain,
A sudden sharp flood of familiar pain.

[Chorus]
Mamá, do you feel this fault line?
This little piece of your blood that's still mine.

[Verse 2]
The fine desert dust is under his nails,
Same kind that settled on all your old veils.
You said, "Mijo, es nada. Just a little scratch."
But some cracks in the granite, they don't never patch.
He pushes a quarter 'cross the wet bar top,
A motion that memory won't let him stop.

[Chorus]
Mamá, do you feel this fault line?
This little piece of your blood that's still mine.

[Bridge]
Some nights, it's a cold seam of silver in stone.
A dull kind of pressure, a weight in the bone.

[Outro]
(A cappella)
Do you feel this fault line?
