Influenced by Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, John Prine, Blaze Foley. Townes Van Roy was born between two worlds in Del Rio, Texas, to a Border Patrol agent father and a mother from Ciudad Acuña, Mexico. He learned to speak Spanish in his grandmother’s kitchen near a specific panadería on Calle Hidalgo and learned about heartbreak when the border separated his own family. After dropping out of high school, he picked up his father’s old Yamaha nylon-string and started writing songs about the ghosts of the Rio Grande. He now lives in a small adobe house in the Terlingua ghost town, writing stark, third-person portraits of the drifters and lost souls he calls neighbors.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The Fanta machine makes a high-lonesome hum,
Four thirteen AM, and the night's goin' numb.
The mop-water moon in the linoleum's sheen,
A five-dollar bill and the space in between.

[Chorus]
This is the hour of the coyote and the comin' sun,
The hour when you're the last, or the only one.
The world holds its breath on a long, single note,
Leavin' just the dust dancin' in your throat.

[Verse 2]
A Kenworth pulls in, hisses air from its brakes,
He buys two black coffees for the miles that it takes.
Traces a name on the counter's cold sweat,
"She said 'call me tomorrow'," but it ain't tomorrow yet.

[Chorus]
This is the hour of the coyote and the comin' sun,
The hour when you're the last, or the only one.
The world holds its breath on a long, single note,
Leavin' just the dust dancin' in your throat.

[Bridge]
That hope's worn thin as a boot sole on shale,
A lonely sax line on the AM dial.
Memory's a fault line runnin' under this place,
One little tremor could swallow your face.

[Chorus]
This is the hour of the coyote and the comin' sun,
(The only one, the only one...)
The hour when you're the last, or the only one.
(Waitin' on, waitin' on...)
The world holds its breath on a long, single note,
Leavin' just the dust dancin' in your throat.

[Outro]
The Fanta machine answers back with a click.
The horizon cracks open, pale and sick.
