Star Singer vs Sondo

Tested by us on October 16, 2026 on a Pixel 6 Pro with the Google Play (US) versions of both apps, real purchases, the same photo and the same brief. Prices change; check the app before you buy.

Short answer

Sondo made the longer, more story-driven video: a 3:22 narrative from the whole song. Star Singer was cheaper and higher resolution: the first full video was $19.99 one-time at 1080x1920, against $19.98 plus tax in Sondo (a weekly subscription plus a credit top-up) for a 480x854 video with a Sondo watermark on by default.

What happened in Sondo

Sign-up wall, then a paywall before even a song. We took the $9.99 weekly VIP plan (800 credits). The video was quoted at 1,407 credits, so a "Pay to continue" screen sold another 800 credits for $9.99. The result was a 3:22 story video with burned-in lyric subtitles and a boyfriend character written into the story.

Where each one is better

Where Sondo is better

  • Full-length story videos. Sondo turned the whole 3:22 song into one narrative, with a second character written into the story. Our full video tells the song through scenes of the singer.
  • A larger, established app: 1M+ installs on Google Play as of our test date.
  • A free character sheet and cover before you pay, similar to our storyboard.

Where Star Singer is better

  • One-time price. No subscription, no weekly renewal and no credits to top up: the clip is $5.99 and the full video is $19.99.
  • Song and video in one place. Star Singer wrote and sang the song (lyrics editable for free first, and the song sang the recipient's name), then made the video from it.
  • Full HD output. Both our clip and our full video came out at 1080x1920.
  • Karaoke lyrics timed to the vocal are part of the video.
  • A free storyboard before you pay: the concept and a few stills, with a button to ask for a different idea.
  • No watermark on paid videos. Sondo's watermark was on by default even after we paid.

Who should pick which

Sondo

Pick Sondo if you want a long, story-led video with supporting characters, and you are fine with a weekly subscription and credits.

Star Singer

Pick Star Singer if you want the song and the video for one known price, in 1080p with no watermark, and you want to see the concept before paying.

Questions about Star Singer vs Sondo

Is Star Singer cheaper than Sondo?
For one full music video, yes in our test on October 16, 2026: Star Singer charged $19.99 once, while Sondo needed a $9.99 weekly subscription plus a $9.99 credit top-up ($19.98 plus tax), and the subscription renews weekly until cancelled. Prices change.
Does Sondo need a subscription?
In our test, yes in practice. A paywall appeared before the first song, and the music video was quoted at 1,407 credits, more than the 800 credits the weekly plan includes.
Does Sondo put a watermark on videos?
The Sondo watermark was switched on by default, including on the video we paid for. Star Singer's paid clip and full music video have no watermark.
Which app makes longer music videos?
Sondo's video in our test was 3:22 and told a story with a second character. Star Singer's full music video covers the whole song (2:02 for the song in our test); a clip is about 22 to 26 seconds.
Which one looks more like me?
Neither held the face perfectly. Sondo's likeness was loose, and in Star Singer the face drifted between shots. If likeness is your top priority, our test favoured Yuna and Mozart over both.
