Influenced by Fela Kuti, King Sunny Adé, Wizkid, The xx. Kobi Flux grew up in Lagos between his father's engineering blueprints and his mother's market textiles. He won a scholarship to study music in London, but dropped out after a professor called his Afrobeats sound 'unrefined,' a moment that still haunts him. Now back in Lekki, he pays his bills with freelance design work and spends his nights crafting melodic, late-night anthems on a secondhand keyboard, turning his imposter syndrome into a sound that is entirely his own.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
You see his face on your feed from Allen Avenue, 2017,
By the drone of the genny, the air smells of kerosene.
He's holding a pint glass somewhere the rain doesn't fall,
You're just mapping the water stains spreading on your wall.

[Pre-Chorus]
And you type out a message, finger hovers on the screen,
That old signal is breaking, what does connection even mean?

[Chorus]
Omo, this silence get weight oh,
Like Third Mainland traffic when the rain show.
He used to be your brother, your blueprint, your plan,
Now you're just two different buildings on the same piece of land.

[Verse 2]
Remember that night by the suya spot, harmattan in the air?
He said, "Lagos na starting block, we no go finish here."
Now his talk is all winter coats and the price of the pound,
You're still here just listening to the same old Lekki sound.

[Bridge]
Did the blueprint just fade out? Was the foundation weak?
Or maybe you just built so high you forgot how to speak.

[Outro]
Same land... oh.
On the same piece of land... wey!
