Influenced by Fela Kuti, King Sunny Adé, Wizkid, The xx. Kobi Flux grew up in Lagos between his father's engineering blueprints and his mother's market textiles. He won a scholarship to study music in London, but dropped out after a professor called his Afrobeats sound 'unrefined,' a moment that still haunts him. Now back in Lekki, he pays his bills with freelance design work and spends his nights crafting melodic, late-night anthems on a secondhand keyboard, turning his imposter syndrome into a sound that is entirely his own.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The Singer pedal had a chip on the left side, from '98.
The whole room smelled of hot iron and harmattan on the adire cloth.
Floorboards covered in indigo dust by the NEPA meter.
Her hand a slow crane building color over the white, making it sweeter.

[Chorus]
Omo, the way she draw the line with the wax-o
No be architect, but she dey build foundation for the cloth-o
Omo, the way the colour bleed for the fabric-o
This one na magic, pure magic.

[Verse 2]
I remember one Tuesday, power was gone since dawn.
She held the blue dye to the window, told me come.
She said, "Kobi, this one no be just blue, na sky before rain come down."
That London prof talk say my sound no get form, but I hear her own for town.

[Chorus]
Omo, the way she draw the line with the wax-o
No be architect, but she dey build foundation for the cloth-o
Omo, the way the colour bleed for the fabric-o
This one na magic, pure magic.

[Bridge]
Humming low like the genny before light come back,
She was drawing a blueprint they never fit track.
One line for Shomolu, one line for the sea,
One secret line just for me.

[Outro]
The line with the wax-o...
(Reharmonized melody with finger-picked acoustic guitar)
Foundation for the cloth...
