Influenced by Nils Frahm, Jon Hopkins, Massive Attack, Burial. Harbour Leon is the project of Leonardo Almeida, an only child raised in a Portuguese family in the shadow of the London Docklands. He learned to play on an out-of-tune piano shipped from his grandmother in Aveiro, its buzzing middle C a sound he still refuses to fix. His atmospheric deep house is built from field recordings taken on his weekly walks along the Thames, mapping the city's post-industrial melancholy. These are the sounds of belonging everywhere and nowhere at once, a quiet broadcast from the spaces in-between.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Under the A13, the tarmac was breathing heat.
Our last tenner spent on four warm cans and shuffling feet.
You traced the rust on a girder with your thumb,
Said the sound of the traffic was a different kind of drum.

[Chorus]
And the bass-kick was a promise then
A scaffolding to hold us in
Just for the night, a different plan.

[Verse 2]
The air tasted of iron dust and cheap perfume, late July.
Sweat beading on the low-slung ceiling, scarring the sky.
You shouted over the breaks, "This is it, this has to be it."
A temporary architecture, before the pieces split.

[Chorus]
And the bass-kick was a promise then
A paper wall to hold us in
Did we believe in our own plan?

[Bridge]
Now the memory's just a hairline crack in the plaster
Echoes moving faster and faster.

[Chorus]
That bass-kick was a promise then
Just rattling bones inside the skin
The city always finds its plan.

[Outro]
Just the DLR, stitching up the dark.
