Influenced by Nils Frahm, Jon Hopkins, Massive Attack, Burial. Harbour Leon is the project of Leonardo Almeida, an only child raised in a Portuguese family in the shadow of the London Docklands. He learned to play on an out-of-tune piano shipped from his grandmother in Aveiro, its buzzing middle C a sound he still refuses to fix. His atmospheric deep house is built from field recordings taken on his weekly walks along the Thames, mapping the city's post-industrial melancholy. These are the sounds of belonging everywhere and nowhere at once, a quiet broadcast from the spaces in-between.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The biometric reader hums a buzzing middle C.
Fluorescent lights on lino, Lunar House, SE.
A man reads the paper from two days ago,
Watches the rust form, patient and slow.

[Chorus]
Polite to the tide, polite to the rain.
We stand in the water and don't feel the strain.
Polite to the tide, polite to the gray.
We watch our own outlines just washing away.

[Verse 2]
The clock on the wall shows it's quarter-past ten.
Her accent is fading, she tries it again.
"Number forty-seven," a voice from a wall,
Her plastic folder braced for the fall.

[Chorus]
Polite to the tide, polite to the rain.
We stand in the water and don't feel the strain.
Polite to the tide, polite to the gray.
We watch our own outlines just washing away.

[Bridge]
Out on the tram lines, the copper wire gleams,
A memory of sunlight from somebody's dreams.
A sudden, mad warmth on the back of the neck,
The whole damn foundation has got a hairline crack.

[Chorus]
Polite to the tide, polite to the rain.
(The iron gives way now)
We stand in the water and don't feel the strain.
Polite to the tide, polite to the gray.
(A city made of water)
We watch our own outlines just washing away.
