Influenced by Herbie Hancock, Betty Davis, Prince, Flying Lotus. Astra Meridian was supposed to compose symphonies. Instead, after a fiery exit from CalArts, she returned to her native Oakland with a mountain of debt and a crisis of faith. She found her true voice in the circuits of an inherited vintage Moog synthesizer, spending her days archiving city blueprints and her nights building a new kind of Afro-futurist funk. These songs are the blueprints, mapping a sound where her city planner grandmother's urban grids meet her jazz-man grandfather's deep-pocket grooves.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The ghost of my bangs from September on Grand Avenue,
Scrapped the old paint job, the one I thought was you.
This new structural steel is holding up the view,
The hum from the Posey Tube sounds like a different groove.

[Chorus]
They call it a paradox, I call it a plan,
New name on the manifest, same bay salt on my hand.
They call it a paradox, I call it the plan.

[Verse 2]
Tore out the old circuit board that ran on bad advice,
Rerouted the conduits, didn't think about it twice.
Left your number on a napkin at a cafe on Piedmont,
“You changed,” you said, like it was an indictment.

[Chorus]
They call it a paradox, I call it a plan,
New name on the manifest, same bay salt on my hand.
They call it a paradox, I call it the plan.

[Bridge]
If every single rivet's new from here to the mast,
Does the blueprint hold true or is it buried in the past?
The grid remains.

[Outro]
Same bay salt on my hand.
Same plan.
