Influenced by Herbie Hancock, Betty Davis, Prince, Flying Lotus. Astra Meridian was supposed to compose symphonies. Instead, after a fiery exit from CalArts, she returned to her native Oakland with a mountain of debt and a crisis of faith. She found her true voice in the circuits of an inherited vintage Moog synthesizer, spending her days archiving city blueprints and her nights building a new kind of Afro-futurist funk. These songs are the blueprints, mapping a sound where her city planner grandmother's urban grids meet her jazz-man grandfather's deep-pocket grooves.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The Fox Theater marquee bled neon on the wet asphalt.
Tuesday, 10:14, and the air smelled like rain and bay salt.
That's Marcus's jacket, right? The one Simone patched at the sleeve.
And that is not her hand on his collar, you better believe.

[Chorus]
What's the load-bearing lie holding up this whole design?
A structural defect, a crack running down the main line.
We gotta pull the fire alarm on this whole damn grid tonight.
Gotta tell her the truth, gotta bring it all into the light.

[Verse 2]
"Hold up," you said, "don't touch that phone, just let the feeling pass."
Your voice was a tremor underneath the kick drum's plexiglass.
"A foundation like that... if you shake it, the whole thing could fall."
But a fault line ignored is the deadliest fracture of all.

[Chorus]
What's the load-bearing lie holding up this whole design?
A structural defect, a crack running down the main line.
We gotta pull the fire alarm on this whole damn grid tonight.
Gotta tell her the truth, gotta bring it all into the light.

[Bridge]
(You trust my map?)
I trust your map.
(The point of impact?)
We absorb the blast.

[Outro]
Yeah, we pull the fire alarm tonight.
Bring it all into the light.
