Influenced by Phoebe Bridgers, Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, Adrianne Lenker. Selah Jubilee’s songs are postcards from a life derailed and painstakingly rebuilt. At nineteen, a nonviolent drug charge sent her to a state correctional institution for eighteen months, where she filled notebooks with the lyrics that would become her first songs. Now living in Pittsburgh, she pays her rent working as a prep cook, writing unflinching music about the long shadow of a criminal record and the quiet grace found in starting over. Her sound is the sound of the Rust Belt: worn-in, wary, and relentlessly hopeful.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The old Nokia in the pierogi box from your mom's kitchen
still had a charge from October 2016.
I sat on the basement steps, the cold concrete a shock,
and my thumb, by habit, went right to the inbox.
My hands remember things my head is told to forget.

[Chorus]
And your laugh is all static and pixelated ruin—
The sound of a foundation finally giving in.
Just for a second, the whole damn structure's weightless,
and I'm not some project someone has to fix.

[Verse 2]
There’s a hairline crack in my new apartment’s spackle,
runs from the window straight down to the floor.
My parole officer says I’m making real headway,
but I still feel the grit of it under my door.
Some rust you just can’t ever sand away.

[Chorus]
And your laugh is all static and pixelated ruin—
The sound of a foundation finally giving in.
Just for a second, the whole damn structure's weightless,
and I'm not some project someone has to fix.

[Bridge]
“Get the good kind,” you were saying, past the hiss,
“the ones with the farmer’s cheese.” And I just listen.

[Outro]
Pixelated ruin.
Yeah, the sound of giving in.
