Influenced by Sade, Etta James, Bill Withers, Fela Kuti. Adaeze Umbra was raised in Manchester's Moss Side, translating council forms for her Nigerian parents by day and memorizing their Stax records by night. She found her voice somewhere between the post-industrial grey of the North and the vibrant Igbo culture of her home. After dropping out of a literature degree, she began writing songs while working in a fabric shop, turning the textures of her two worlds into a powerful, contemporary soul music. Her songs are for anyone who's ever felt like a translator in their own life.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Mrs. Anya on Claremont Road still salts the window sills.
Every Tuesday, just past noon, when the 50 bus sighs still.
A fine white line of crystal thread, against the damp and chill.
Her knuckles are a pattern map of some place I've never been.

[Chorus]
(Male Vocalist)
Some stitches hold a warning.
Some stitches hold a warning in.

[Verse 2]
Her daughter asks, "Ma, what's it for?" on the phone from down in Roe Green.
She just hums a tune from '68 and wipes the counter clean.
Weaving a ghost-proof net for a spectre that's never seen
The grey brick and the satellite dish, or the Moss Side precinct scene.

[Chorus]
(Male Vocalist)
Some stitches hold a warning.
Some stitches hold a warning in.

[Bridge]
And I check the front door lock three times before I turn the light.
Just a tiny, careful rhythm threaded through my hands at night.

[Chorus]
(Male Vocalist)
Some stitches hold a warning.
Some stitches hold a warning in.

[Outro]
A fine white line.
A fine white line.
