Influenced by Fela Kuti, King Sunny Adé, Wizkid, The xx. Kobi Flux grew up in Lagos between his father's engineering blueprints and his mother's market textiles. He won a scholarship to study music in London, but dropped out after a professor called his Afrobeats sound 'unrefined,' a moment that still haunts him. Now back in Lekki, he pays his bills with freelance design work and spends his nights crafting melodic, late-night anthems on a secondhand keyboard, turning his imposter syndrome into a sound that is entirely his own.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The spare key by the NEPA meter got a film of rust.
It's from October, smells like harmattan dust.
You built a whole high-rise but you left no address for me,
So I trace the unapproved blueprint in my memory.

[Chorus]
Omo, the Danfo key for my table,
Still dey wait for your ignition.
One engine for this whole city,
And e no wan start for me.

[Interlude]
(A woman's voice, like a distorted voice memo, clips slightly)
"...just leave am. I go come for am. Later. Promise."

[Verse 2]
Last night, on the Third Mainland, the traffic moved slow.
Every brake light a question I already know.
My guy ask me, "Kobi, why you still dey hold am tight?"
I just dey laugh, say the metal feels cool in the night.

[Chorus]
Omo, the Danfo key for my table,
Still dey wait for your ignition.
One engine for this whole city,
And e no wan start for me.

[Bridge]
This whole foundation na sinking sand,
But I still dey reach for your hand.

[Chorus]
Omo, the Danfo key for my table,
Still dey wait for your ignition.
One engine for this whole city,
And e no wan start for me.

[Outro]
The genny hums a low one… then a flatline hum.
Still dey wait.
