Influenced by Elizabeth Mitchell, Priscilla Ahn, Sufjan Stevens, Nick Drake. Starlight Cradle was born Aiko Tanaka, the only child of a Japanese-American boatwright and a librarian in Port Townsend, a Victorian seaport on the Puget Sound. Her lullabies are written on her grandfather's worn nylon-string guitar, seeking the quiet of her hometown amidst the noise of Seattle, where she now works in a small textile shop. These songs are fragments of a life spent between two worlds: the scent of cedar and salt from her father’s workshop, and the anonymous hum of a city that never fully feels like home.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
There's a spool of indigo thread
On the sill by the window bed
The dye is dark and deep
Go to sleep, my love, go to sleep

[Chorus]
Just a single strand
Held here in my hand
Close your eyes and I will mend you
Yes, I will mend you

[Verse 2]
Past the two-a.m. freight train's call
Its shadow on the wall
"It's only thread," you laughed
A light through paper craft

[Chorus]
Just a single strand
Held here in my hand
Close your eyes and I will mend you
Yes, I will mend you

[Bridge]
A patch for every tear
To keep you ever near
A stitch to hold you fast
A knot that's made to last

[Outro]
I will mend you
Won't you mend me too?
