Influenced by Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Mad Season, Stone Temple Pilots, The Melvins. As the oldest of six in a West Virginia factory town, Lane Stayton had to parent his siblings while still a child himself. The resentment and fierce loyalty of that stolen youth fuels his music—a heavy, sludgy grunge built on down-tuned guitars and his own pained, double-tracked vocal harmonies. His songs, written on a beat-up acoustic in a small apartment overlooking the Ohio River, are raw dispatches from the heart of post-industrial America.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The porcelain on the kitchen sink has a hairline crack like the Big Sandy.
It's Tuesday, just past two, a low-pressure front is coming in handy.
You can't hear the train whistle for the hum from the substation,
And the tap water is running brown with rust and resignation.

[Chorus]
And this is the part where I'm supposed to say something,
To patch the new hole in the drywall of your name.

[Verse 2]
You left a note under the sugar bowl, said "Don't you wait up for me."
It was your mother's cursive, a perfect, sloping forgery.
The whole house smells like damp earth and your menthol cigarette,
A ghost of every promise that hasn't been broken yet.

[Chorus]
Yeah, this is the part where I'm supposed to say something,
To stop the slow landslide that's started in your frame.

[Bridge]
Every latent fault line in this county runs right under our floor.
I'm just watching the pressure build, keeping my own damn score.

(False Ending)
[Chorus]
And this is the part where I'm supposed to say something...
But the quiet feels like bedrock. I'm letting go of the rein.

[Outro]
(Music returns: sparse, treated guitar arpeggio and a low, rumbling tom)
The quiet feels like bedrock...
