Influenced by Fela Kuti, King Sunny Adé, Wizkid, The xx. Kobi Flux grew up in Lagos between his father's engineering blueprints and his mother's market textiles. He won a scholarship to study music in London, but dropped out after a professor called his Afrobeats sound 'unrefined,' a moment that still haunts him. Now back in Lekki, he pays his bills with freelance design work and spends his nights crafting melodic, late-night anthems on a secondhand keyboard, turning his imposter syndrome into a sound that is entirely his own.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The genny hums a low one for the blackout on Adekunle.
You trace the condensation on your glass, say nothing purposeful.
The air is thick enough to build on, heavy with the harmattan dust.
I watch your mouth, the shape of words you throw away like paper crust.

[Pre-Chorus]
And my mind dey gridlock, Third Mainland for rush hour.
Every thought a yellow danfo, fighting for the power.

[Chorus]
Oh, silence, you no go win tonight, osha pra pra!
We go dance on this unfinished foundation, ah-ah-ah!
This small joy, I go hold am with defiance, omo iya mi!
This Carter Bridge static no go kill our vibe, lai lai!

[Verse 2]
Remember that professor, London, 2019?
He said, "Your sound is unrefined, lacks a proper building scheme."
Since then, I dey fear the first floor, I dey fear to pour the concrete.
Just dey sketch the plan inside my head for road wey no complete.

[Bridge]
What I wanted to say was, "Your laugh is the only NEPA light I need."
What I wanted to ask was, "Is there space for me inside this dream?"

[Outro]
(Vocal ad-lib: Oya na...)
(Unresolved chord hangs... then fades into drone)
