Influenced by Dev Hynes (Blood Orange), Prince, Arthur Russell, D'Angelo, Solange. A former architecture student from South London, Silas Croft now builds songs instead of buildings. He uses the worn-down 1978 Fender P-Bass his father gave him to map the emotional blueprints of his life, writing about the ghosts of relationships and the changing face of his city. He still works a day job as a draftsman to pay his rent and talks to 'Cecil,' the overgrown houseplant his ex-girlfriend left behind.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The Yale key on the hook still waits for your thumb.
Its brass teeth remember a lock on a door in Peckham.
Now there’s a new façade, fresh paint on the frame,
but I still trace the grain and I whisper your name.

[Pre-Chorus]
This little piece of metal, a map to what's lost.
The only true relic, whatever the cost.

[Chorus]
It's a cathedral in my palm, a latchkey hymn.
Every turn was a sermon, every silence a psalm.

[Verse 2]
I remember the clatter it made on the slate.
The smell of damp wool as you came through the gate.
You’d say, "Obiara nse nea ɔwoo no," and laugh at the dust,
built me from foundations of unconditional trust.

[Pre-Chorus]
This little piece of brass, a map to what's lost.
The only true relic, whatever the cost.

[Chorus]
It's a cathedral in my palm, a latchkey hymn.
Every turn was a sermon, every silence a psalm.

[Bridge]
Tonight I'm taking Cecil out to the balcony edge,
letting the Brixton rain wash the dust from this pledge.

[Outro]
A latchkey hymn.
For you.
