Influenced by Pearl Jam, Mark Lanegan, Soundgarden, Neil Young, Alice in Chains. Eddie Vetter spent his twenties not on stage, but in the deafening engine room of a container ship, crossing the Pacific. A Filipino-American from the naval town of Bremerton, WA, he wrote his first songs on a cheap guitar in a tiny cabin to combat the crushing loneliness of the open sea. Now 38 and back on land, his brand of Seattle grunge is soaked in saltwater and stained with engine grease, telling the working-class stories of a life most people only see from the shore.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
He watches the ferry horn from Sinclair Inlet
Trace a ghost on his whiskey glass.
He sees a man with his own worn-out face
Letting the last good hour pass.
The salt's in the lines around his eyes,
a map of a tide that won't come back.

[Chorus]
That ain't his shadow on the barroom floor
That ain't his name on the engine room door anymore
This is the pressure before the plates give
The longest breath he will ever live

[Verse 2]
The bartender mops up a spill with a rag
That smells like stale beer and chlorine.
He hears a voice from twenty years back, sharp as a rivet,
"Just one more tour, kid, you'll come back clean."
Now the grease under his nails is a permanent stain
And the hum of the ballast is gone from his brain.

[Chorus]
That ain't his shadow on the barroom floor
That ain't his name on the engine room door anymore
This is the pressure before the plates give
The longest breath he will ever live

[Bridge]
The tide charts are framed on the wall,
a language he can't speak at all.
Every knot he ever learned to trust
Is turning into dust.

[Outro]
That ain't his shadow on the floor...
The neon hums an open chord...
