Lyrics
But her welcome’s sweet as sugar, and there’s hunger in her smile.
Crooked door upon the street, tea waiting by the chair,
“Little dears, the souls are hiding—look behind the stair!”
Find them before the dawn breaks through,
Or Granny keeps a soul for you.
Tiptoe, candle, creaking floor—
Don’t let her close the door.
They were children, wild and free, now shadows in the gloom,
Beneath the bedsheets, past the curtains, tucked in every room.
The moon shines pale, the candles flare, the floorboards groan below,
Granny’s eyes begin to gleam: “You’re running out of go.”
Find them before the dawn breaks through,
Or Granny keeps a soul for you.
Tiptoe, candle, creaking floor—
Don’t let her close the door.
“If you fail, you’ll join them here—no way out of my house.
And I’ll devour you,” she whispers, “quiet as a mouse.”
So if she calls you in for tea, don’t linger by the gate—
Lost children cry inside her house, and Granny’s appetite won’t wait.
