Influenced by Bruce Springsteen, The War on Drugs, The 1975, Peter Gabriel. Rory Zima’s parents fled Sarajevo in the 90s and settled in Paterson, NJ, never speaking of the war they escaped. He found his own language in their unspoken history, saving up from a dishwashing job to buy a vintage Juno-106 synthesizer. Now 29 and living in a converted Jersey City garage, his anthemic, synth-soaked rock songs are dispatches from the NJ Turnpike, trying to outrun a past that isn't even his.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The copper key from the Paterson house
is cold on the butcher block counter.
You trace the rust-bloom with your thumb,
a quiet rebellion you mutter.
It's 1:48 AM, the window's open wide,
Got a plan humming in the back of your mind.

[Chorus]
Oh, it's a back porch theory,
Yeah, you gotta see if it's true.
Does the silence in that kitchen
still feel the same without you?

[Verse 2]
Your father once said, "This old lock always sticks,"
and you learned the little trick to it.
A half-turn back before the final click,
a language of metal, you just knew it.
The air smells like rain coming over the Passaic,
This whole dumb idea feels suddenly classic.

[Bridge]
(Music drops out, a lone whistled melody carries the hook)
The engine's warm, the tank is full.
A beautiful, stupid, logical pull.

[Chorus]
Oh, it's a back porch theory,
Yeah, you gotta see if it's true.
Does the silence in that kitchen
still feel the same without you?

[Outro]
(Chorus melody reharmonized over a dusty breakbeat and a distant train horn)
See if it's true...
You gotta see if it's true.
