Influenced by IDLES, Fontaines D.C., Gang of Four, The Fall, Sleaford Mods. Keir Bitumen was raised in Sheffield by a single mother who worked three jobs. He saw her fall asleep at the kitchen table from exhaustion and swore he'd make enough so she could stop; he hasn't yet, and the guilt fuels every note. After leaving school at sixteen to work as a scaffolder, he started writing songs on a battered Telecaster about the grit and grace of post-industrial life. These tracks, written between courier shifts and rehearsals in a damp railway arch, are a raw, blistering document of a city and a life on the edge.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Since Tuesday, August ninth, they haven't left the tin.
The Halfords keyring, fake leather peeling off like sunburnt skin.
I trace the Ford logo, thumb worn smooth and black.
The grease under your fingernails you could never quite scrub back.

[Chorus]
You're a permanent fixture now.
A crack in the foundation I just live with somehow.
You're a permanent fixture now.
Loud as the silence in this empty house.

[Verse 2]
Found a book of Green Shield stamps tucked in the glove compartment door.
Don't even know what you were saving them up for.
You said, "Mind the clutch, son, it's a bit of a bugger."
Your voice in the passenger seat, a low and steady mutter.
My hands on the wheel, yours were calloused and steady.

[Chorus]
You're a permanent fixture now.
A crack in the foundation I just live with somehow.
You're a permanent fixture now.
Loud as the silence in this empty house.

[Bridge]
Did you know it was the last time?
The drive back from Skegness, the salt-wind and the grime?
Just for a second, I smell the chip fat and the rain.

[Outro]
Your hand on the gearstick.
A permanent fixture.
