Dad and the River

[Verse]
Well, somebody invited my dad whitewater rafting.
And Dad said, "Sure."

Now, there's one small detail you oughta know.
The man can't swim.

Not a little.
Not a lot.
Not enough to be volunteering for river activities.

But off he went anyway.

[Chorus]
He can't swim, but he rode that raft
Hit the rapids and he had a laugh
Most folks see danger and turn away
Dad dives in anyway

[Verse]
The river got rough.
The guide got serious.

And at some point, things got a little more exciting than anybody planned.

For a minute there, it looked like the river might win.

But the river underestimated one thing.

My dad is stubborn.

[Chorus]
He can't swim, but he rode that raft
Hit the rapids and he had a laugh
Most folks see danger and turn away
Dad dives in anyway

[Spoken Outro]
Now he's back home telling stories.

Still grinning.
Still standing.

And somehow proud of nearly drowning.

Which is probably the most Dad thing I've ever heard.

A man who can't swim probably shouldn't go whitewater rafting...

but then again...

if he didn't...

we wouldn't have this story.
