[Verse 1]
On 2nd Ave, by the chain-link where the new build stalled,
foundations cracked before they poured the slab, I saw it all.
Every Tuesday, seven-oh-three on the digital dash,
a beat-up Civic parks, she moves deliberate and fast.
She don't look at the blight, the rebar sticking out the ground like bones,
just walks up to one fence post, completely in her zone.
The heat off the asphalt, that one white gardenia,
she threads it through the diamond-wire grid, you shoulda seen her.

Then it's back in the car, gone 'fore the second coat of dust can settle,
she's testing the structural integrity of a promise made of metal.
No tears, no ceremony, no looking back to check,
just a small white flag of grace on a project that's a wreck.
I map the whole procedure, a schematic in my head,
the angle of approach, the words I know are left unsaid.
"It's just a thing I do," is what I bet she'd say if I rolled down the glass,
her own private zoning law on a future that won't last.
