Influenced by Sufjan Stevens, Joanna Newsom, Nico Muhly, Fleet Foxes. Asaariah Collett grew up a stonemason's son in Manti, Utah, learning to play Mormon hymns on his great-grandfather's banjo. At sixteen, his world fractured when his older brother was excommunicated. This rupture became the quiet center of his work as Almanac of June, crafting intricate chamber-folk about the architecture of faith and the ghosts it leaves behind. The songs were written in the back rooms of a rare bookstore in Salt Lake City before he moved to a small apartment in Burlington, Vermont, where he still lives.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The Xerox hum in Bishop Steiner's office at 4:03 in the afternoon.
The smell of warm toner and the low sun through the vestibule.
The vinyl on the waiting-room chair sticking to my summer legs.
A dormant seed of anger, planted in the floorboards then.

[Chorus]
We're just volunteer crops now, you and me.
Growing up through the cracks in the testimony.

[Verse 2]
The dog-eared copy of 'Watership Down' you left on the sill.
The felt from your mission pin, a Ziploc bag of garden dill.
The weak light cutting through the dust motes, standing dead-end still.
Your note just said, "Guess the roots just rotted. Tell them I said hi."

[Chorus]
We're just volunteer crops now, you and me.
Growing up through the cracks in the testimony.

[Bridge]
(Spoken in a flat, distant voice, as if from a recording)
"...conduct unbecoming a member... the council has determined further fellowship is untenable at this time..."

[Chorus]
We're just volunteer crops now, you and me.
Growing up through the cracks in the testimony.

[Outro]
Growing in the dark now.
Growing where they cannot see.
