Influenced by Cocteau Twins, Mazzy Star, Brian Eno, Julee Cruise. Fen Hollins was raised by a single mother who worked the line at a Maine fish cannery, a reality that seeps into the bones of her music. Her songs, written on a vintage Juno-60 synthesizer in a small Portland apartment overlooking the sea, are love letters to a fisherman who, like the tide, always leaves and always returns. To pay rent, she spends her days transcribing the logs of 19th-century ghost ships, weaving their solitude into her own ethereal, reverb-soaked dream-pop.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The Keno numbers paint your driver's side window green.
He's buying coffee, same as always, a roadside scene.
You're just a shape behind the verdigris on the glass.
I watch this whole cheap cathedral glow and pass.

[Chorus]
And isn't this holy? The low hum of the freezer case?
Just a single luminescence on a dark piece of coast.
He leaves, and the tide comes in and takes his place.

[Interlude]
(Spoken, flat)
"He says, 'Marlboro Lights. And a scratch-off, the one with the ship on it.'"

[Verse 2]
I see your car here when the fog is a curtain drawn.
Waiting for the tail lights to bleed into the pre-dawn.
I smell the creosote, the cold salt blowing off the flats.
We're just two ghosts in a harbor, and that's that.

[Chorus]
And isn't this holy? The low hum of the freezer case?
Just a single luminescence on a dark piece of coast.
He leaves, and the tide comes in and takes his place.

[Bridge]
He'll be gone 'til the abyssal plain gives him back.
And we'll be here, waiting for the sun to crack
the asphalt open, quiet as a heart attack.

[Outro]
I turn the sign on the glass door to 'Closed'.
You were already gone, I suppose.
