Influenced by IDLES, Fontaines D.C., Gang of Four, The Fall, Sleaford Mods. Keir Bitumen was raised in Sheffield by a single mother who worked three jobs. He saw her fall asleep at the kitchen table from exhaustion and swore he'd make enough so she could stop; he hasn't yet, and the guilt fuels every note. After leaving school at sixteen to work as a scaffolder, he started writing songs on a battered Telecaster about the grit and grace of post-industrial life. These tracks, written between courier shifts and rehearsals in a damp railway arch, are a raw, blistering document of a city and a life on the edge.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The last good mug has a crack near the handle,
A thin white line like the River Don at flood.
Her calloused thumb wore a patch on the ceramic,
A smooth grey worry in the factory mud.

[Chorus]
It holds the tea. It holds the heat.
The hairline fracture's all you see.
It holds the tea. It holds the heat.
A load-bearing flaw, and it’s still complete.

[Verse 2]
It’s quarter past five on a Tuesday in November,
The Supertram hisses on its wet steel track.
This kitchen is a blueprint for things he remembers,
Every chip in the formica talks straight back.

[Chorus]
It holds the tea. It holds the heat.
The hairline fracture's all you see.
It holds the tea. It holds the heat.
A load-bearing flaw, and it’s still complete.

[Bridge]
He traces the fissure with a scaffold-rough finger.
"Don't you dare throw that out," she'd said. "It's still good."

[Chorus]
It holds the tea. It holds the heat.
The hairline fracture's all you see.
It holds the tea. It holds the heat.
A load-bearing flaw, and it’s still complete.

[Outro]
It's still good.
Still good.
