You have a finished song, maybe one you made in Suno, and you want a music video for it. There are two ways to make one with AI:
- An all-in-one generator. You upload the song and a photo, and get back a finished music video with scenes, a singer who lip-syncs to the vocal, and the lyrics on screen. It takes minutes.
- The hands-on way. You generate short clips with an AI video model and edit them to the song yourself. It takes hours, and you control every shot.
Both start the same way.
Before you start: the song
- Use the finished audio file, such as an MP3 or a WAV. Most generators and editors take either.
- Check your rights. If the song came from an AI music tool, read its plan terms. Suno's free plan does not include commercial use, which matters if the video will earn money or promote something. Original songs you generate with Star Singer can be monetized: free songs with a StarSinger.ai credit, paid songs with no credit at all.
- Decide the length. A short clip of the best 20 to 30 seconds, usually the chorus, is enough for TikTok, Reels and Shorts. A full-length video suits YouTube and your own channels.
Route 1: an all-in-one AI music video generator
This is the route for most people. Here is how it works on Star Singer, our own app; other song-to-video generators follow a similar flow.
Step 1: Upload your song
Add your audio file (MP3, WAV, AAC or M4A, from 10 seconds to 5.5 minutes). If you do not have a song yet, describe one in a line and the AI writes and sings it in about 90 seconds.
Step 2: Add one photo of the singer
A clear, front-facing photo of one person in good light. It can be you. That person becomes the singer in every scene. If a photo has no clear face or cannot be used, the app says so before you pay.
Step 3: Check the concept
Before you buy, you see the story the AI wrote for your song, with a few generated preview stills. If it is not right, ask for another idea.
Step 4: Get the video
About five minutes later you have a vertical music video: cinematic scenes, close-ups lip-synced to the vocal, and the lyrics as captions. Choose a short clip of the best part or the full song; see pricing. Watch finished ones on the AI music video examples page.
Route 2: the hands-on way
Choose this route if you want full creative control and have a few hours.
- Write a short concept and map it to the song. Intro, verses, choruses, bridge, ending. Decide what each section shows. Choruses get the strongest shots.
- Make a still image for each scene with an AI image generator. Use one reference image of your singer for every shot that shows them.
- Animate each still into a 5 to 10 second clip with an AI video model. Describe the motion, not just the scene: "slow push-in while she sings", "camera circles the stage".
- Edit the clips to the song. Put the master track on the timeline first, then cut the clips on the beat in any video editor. Add the lyrics as captions.
Our general guide to making a music video covers shot sizes, cutting on the beat and exporting for each platform; all of it applies to AI footage too.
Tips that make an AI music video look real
- Keep the face consistent. Reuse the same reference image of the singer in every shot. A face that changes between scenes is the most common giveaway.
- Lip-sync in close-ups. Mouth movement reads best when the face fills the frame. Use wide shots for places and atmosphere, not for singing.
- Cut on the beat. Change shots on the rhythm, faster in the chorus.
- Save the best close-ups for the chorus. It is the part people watch most.
- Add captions. Many people start watching with the sound off.
Which route should you pick?
| You want | Use |
|---|---|
| A finished video in minutes | An all-in-one generator |
| Full creative control, and you have a few hours | The hands-on way |
| The best of both | Generate the video, then add your own shots in an editor |
Frequently asked questions
Can I make an AI music video from a Suno song? Yes. Download the song as an audio file and upload it to a music video generator, or edit AI clips to it yourself. Check Suno's plan terms if you will use the video commercially. Star Singer's music video for Suno songs page shows the upload route.
Can I make an AI music video of myself? Yes. With a photo-to-music-video generator, one clear photo of you becomes the singer. See photo to music video.
How long does it take to make an AI music video? Minutes with an all-in-one generator; a few hours the hands-on way, most of it spent generating and choosing clips.
Do AI music videos have lip-sync? All-in-one generators built for music videos lip-sync the singer to the vocal. General AI video models usually do not unless you use a lip-sync feature, and they work best on close-ups.
